LATE bloomer Stevie Robinson enjoyed a ‘triple treat’ in Broken Hill last weekend.

Partnering Maythehorsebwithu in the second event on the card, Robinson registered her maiden victory at her seventh drive.

Paying $15.80, Maythehorsebwithu scored by a short half-head from Dribblabill.

The fact the runner-up was driven by Robinson’s sister, Cassie, doubled her joy!

“It was a double bonus to get my first win and beat Cassie all in one,” Robinson said. “It was a surprise…I didn’t expect it, but it was really nice.

“I was over the moon with the win and stayed there all night.”

With the sisters members of the Teal Pants Team, Robinson stated the timing of her initial success “couldn’t have been better”.

Between February 1 and March 14 the sport’s ladies wear specially-designed teal pants to raise awareness and valuable funds for ANZGOG – Australia New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group.

Money is earned via each win during the campaign, with the various state governing bodies donating a set amount per victory, which is matched by the state’s major wagering company.

On average a win is worth $400 for the kitty.

The Teal Pants Campaign is in its seventh year, having originated in Victoria before including New South Wales and then expanding across the southern hemisphere during the next few years.

Before the introduction of teal pants Victorian reinswomen began wearing teal ribbon insignia silks in 2010.

During the past decade the campaign has raised millions of dollars for the Women’s Cancer Foundation and ANZGOG.

“To be part of the Teal Pants Team is a wonderful feeling,” Robinson said. “And to win a race, my first at that, during the campaign made it a triple treat.

“The timing couldn’t have been better knowing the win helps raise money and even attracts a bit of spotlight for such a wonderful cause.”

Cassie wasn’t to be denied during the evening, however, finishing the program with a double.

Cassie was triumphant with Outstanding Speaka and Bettatobelucky.

The sisters’ winners were prepared by 79-year-old horseman Don Pimm.

Combined the sisters raised $1200 towards the Teal Pants Tally and are far from finished!

“We’ll be back on track at Broken Hill on Saturday night and doing everything we can to get more teal wins,” Robinson said.

“Cassie has a drive in each of the races and I’ll be in three, including Maythehorsebwithu which is a good chance again from barrier three.

“There are four more Broken Hill meetings to go before March 14 and we are determined to do more for this wonderful cause.”

As at Monday 15 February, 112 winners were driven in Teal with 43 individual female drivers recording victories.

Each Monday, an update tally will be provided on harness.org.au.
