Scooter to rev up at Wivenhoe

Scooterwillrev is the pride of the Wivenhoe Showgrounds and is the star attraction of the Burnie Harness Racing Club’s twilight card of racing this evening.

The dynamic Craig Hayes pacer (pictured) is unbeaten on the track and despite being asked to stand up the front markers a 30-metre handicap is a long odds-on favourite to notch up the 24th win of its 38 start career for trainer Craig Hayes.

“Scooterwillrev had a great start to the season, he came off winning five of his nine runs last season and has started off in a similar vein this campaign,” said Craig.

“He needed the run when the first-up third to Full Speed Ahead coming off the 30-metre handicap and then beat Riverboat Jasper in the Danbury Park Cup and Illegal Immigrant in his heat of the Golden Apple.”

That’s where the state’s two champion pacers locked horns in the inaugural running of the final of the Tassie Golden Apple.

“Harjeet has just had the edge on Scooter at their last two runs but there hasn’t been much between them in the Apple or Flying Mile, I’m not sure who will be happier not to see Harjeet today, the horse or Rohan (Hadley),” said Craig.

“Alta Surreal, trained by Bianca Heenan, is a danger of the front-line as he’s already won five races this season including Sunday’s 20-metre victory in Hobart over Jetcraft and Resurgent Dream after leading.”

The Burnie Cup winner Perfect Mach, trained by Ben Yole, will also contest the 2500-metre staying test drawn inside the 10-metre line, the eight-year-old gelding has a recent second to its credit at Devonport behind Poker Storm in the Dash For Cash on Cup night.

No Apachemee, quoted at $31 in early markets, could be one to add some value to the exotics on the back of recent strong performances behind Remember Joe and Dasher Houli.

This evening’s Burnie Harness Racing Club meeting, commencing at 17.41, may be seen via the live stream service at tasracing.com.au.
