Record support from breeders across Australia has led to the SA Yearling Sale committee cataloguing a star-studded lineup of yearlings for the 2019 Allwood Stud Farm SA Yearling Sale on Sunday, February 10.
The sale has attracted entries from New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia, along with a strong local benchmark of vendors.
Benstud Standardbreds, one of Australia’s leading breeding and agistment farms, has nominated three superbly bred colts for their second foray into the SA yearling market.
The trio is spearheaded by a Somebeachsomewhere colt out of the Sportswriter mare Bella Sainz (1:56.2), a half-sister to six inside 2:00 including the 3YO Filly of the Year and dual Vicbred champion Bellas Delight.
Benstud is also offering a Captaintreacherous colt out of Lastovo, a Rock N Roll Heaven half-sister to the Victoria Derby heat winner Motor Smoker; and a Rock N Roll Heaven half-brother to the SA Oaks winner Passions Delight.
Harvey Kaplan, the 2013 Victorian Breeder of the Year, has entered two youngsters by last season’s leading first-crop sire A Rocknroll Dance. They are a half-sister to the APG heat winner Single Tree Road and a filly out of a half-sister to the Southern Cross 2YO Final winner Ruffle My Feathers.
NSW breeder-owner Michael Taylor, a generous sponsor of SA trotting, is offering two well-bred colts, one by Rock N Roll Heaven from the dam of APG heat winner Sea Hawke and the other by A Rocknroll Dance from a winning Four Starzzz Shark mare.
Prominent Perth breeder John Coffey has entered two fillies under the banner of Patrician Park. His draft includes a Pet Rock filly whose dam is a half-sister to the Bathurst Gold Crown placegetter Falcon’s Folly and a filly by The Gold Ace from a daughter of the multiple Group placegetter Hello Boys.
Portland horseman Heath Bourke is also dually represented at the sale. He has nominated a colt and a filly by champion sire Western Terror with both from strong maternal families.
Shepparton breeder Ross Gange, trading as Cavalli Superiori, has a single entry but the all-American bred colt looks certain to attract plenty of admirers. It is by the Inter Dominion-winning sire Bettor’s Delight out of the Artsplace mare Contrapan (1:55), the dam of multiple Group 1 placegetter Border Control (1:50.6) and the USA stakes winner Chasin Racin (1:51).
Alabar Bloodstock, which has deep roots in Adelaide, is offering a Mr Feelgood from an Art Major mare, Armazen NZ (1:54.7), a member of the Black Watch tribe of Laurella, Express Stride and so on, while Swan Hill breeder Gerard Moloney has entered a colt by Somebeachsomewhere out of the dam of the flying The Culture (1:51.6) and closely related to the Bathurst Gold Crown heat winner Uncle Jord (1:51.1).
