Ninety-five per cent of Victorian trots race meetings will be covered by head-on camera footage following a Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) initiative jointly funded by the State Government’s Racing Infrastructure Fund (VRIF).
Twelve country trots venues (Charlton, Cobram, Echuca, Geelong, Hamilton, Horsham, Maryborough, Mildura, Shepparton, Stawell, Terang and Warragul) will have head-on cameras installed as part of the $200,809 project.
The Daniel Andrews Government will contribute $100,405 to the project under the VRIF.
HRV Chairman of Stewards Nick Murray said head-on cameras were an important tool to enhance the integrity of harness racing.
“Head-on cameras are an essential tool for stewards,” Mr Murray said.
“This vital resource ensures that stewards obtain a holistic view of racing at these tracks and particularly to assist when determining protests and other racing incidents".
“The Integrity department is pleased with the continued support of the Andrews State Government and its investment in this important function.”
Already works have been completed at Shepparton, Maryborough, Echuca, Horsham and Geelong with the other abovementioned clubs to have head-on cameras installed in coming months.
Operated cameras are already in place at Tabcorp Park Melton, Cranbourne, Kilmore and Yarra Valley with fixed head-on cameras in operation at Ballarat, Bendigo and Swan Hill.
