Austin Mifsud after Daiquiri's win.
An emotional Austin Mifsud dedicated Saturday night's win at Tabcorp Park Melton to his wife, Julie.
Scoring with Daiquiri in the Bunnings Melton Trot, Mifsud steered his hope to the front from gate two to salute at $17.20 for owners Julie and William Mifsud.
"This one's for my wife, Julie, who is having an operation tomorrow morning and she loves this horse, she bought him for me," Austin Mifsud told All Clear, which is Trots Media's weekly video that features Tabcorp Park's winning drivers.
"I'd like to thank David Jack. I met him at Yarra Glen before I bought him and I said, 'David, I'm after a nice little trotter to have a bit of fun with'.
"He said, 'son, I've got one here'. I said, 'what do you want for him David'. He said, 'we'll work that out. I'll take him home for you, drop him off. You'll have a lot of fun with this bloke'."
Daiquiri debuted for the Mifsuds at Echuca in May and has since had 18 starts for four wins, with none more lucrative than Saturday night's trot, when he beat talented trotters Into The Unknown and Fiery Mountain Girl into placings.
"I'm really rapt," Mifsud said. "I'd like to thank Phil Walters for the job he is doing with these horses. I really appreciate the win."
