MEDIA RELEASE

The HRSA Board wish to announce that John Lewis has formally tendered his resignation as Chief Executive Officer. In accordance with the notice period, John has advised that he will conclude his service on 18 March 2018.

HRSA Chairman, Chris Hartwig, acknowledged John’s excellent service to harness racing in South Australia during a period of significant change and ongoing challenges.

“John was instrumental in establishing the first ever external review of integrity operations which resulted in a significant number of improvements to integrity operations in South Australian harness racing”.

“Additionally he successfully recommended to the Board to commission an Independent Review of SA Harness Racing which resulted in the Cunningham Report. The report resulted in 20 key recommendations which when implemented will create a strong foundation for harness racing in the future.”

Mr Hartwig also stated that “the return of harness racing to Wayville on 27 October is another significant achievement which has generated enormous public interest across South Australia. John also secured the largest ever sponsorship deal for the code and successfully established the Adelaide Crows ‘We’re Flying’ Syndicate”.

“During his tenure and despite a highly competitive and evolving wagering environment, HRSA has experienced increased wagering growth and an operating profit for the third successive year”.

Mr Hartwig also stated that there are a number of key events that will be delivered during the remainder of John’s tenure including the Wayville Retro Trots Night, UBet SA Cup and the Allwood Stud Yearling Sale and we look forward to the positive contribution John will continue to make.”

The HRSA Board will decide on an appropriate replacement strategy in due course.
