HARNESS racing in New South Wales will have a new $1million race as announced by HRNSW Chairman Mr Rod Smith on Tuesday, an addition to the $1 million Miracle Mile.

The race, which will be funded from negotiated arrangements between the racing industry and Tabcorp with the introduction of a new bet type Odds and Evens, will be the culmination of a series of races across NSW into the rich final.

Whilst the final concept for the series is to be endorsed by the Board of HRNSW later this month, Mr Smith was extremely enthusiastic and comfortable that the additional prizemoney would continue the objectives of HRNSW in delivering opportunities to all participants across the state.

“We have injected funding into established feature races and carnivals and now I am proud to say we are giving participants an opportunity to race for high stakes with horses which are not at the top level of our code of racing,” Mr Smith said.

“The Board has a demonstrated ethos to cover the state where we can and the concept for this race provides for participants in the country, provincial and metropolitan areas, including as far away as Broken Hill to compete in their own back yards.

“All the owners and trainers really need is the horse good enough to win the $1 million race.

“The Board will sign off on the race conditions shortly after which time HRNSW will make more detailed announcements,” Mr Smith concluded.

A further announcement is envisaged from HRNSW this month.

Harness Racing NSW (HRNSW) is the controlling body for harness racing in New South Wales with responsibility for commercial and regulatory management of the industry including 33 racing clubs across the State.  HRNSW is headed by a Board of Directors and is independent of Government.
