The Nathan Turvey-trained and driven Livura seems a good way for punters to start the night on a winning note at Gloucester Park on Friday night, according to members of the WA Trotting Media Guild.
In a show of confidence, every member of the Guild thinks Livura can score an all-the-way victory.
Budding race caller and form analyst Hayden King has even made Livura his best bet for the meeting.
“Livura is a very bold frontrunner and he will be very hard to beat in the first race,” King said. “He is racing well and this is his chance.”
Multiple winner of the Guild’s tipping competition Stuart Lowe, The West Australian’s Ernie Manning and The West Australian’s racing co-ordinator Ryan Havercroft have all made Has No Fear their star bet.
“Has No Fear has struck a purple patch of form with impressive wins here at her last two starts,” Lowe said. “This race doesn’t look any stronger.”
Manning and Havercroft agree.
“Has No Fear should give top young trainer Justin Prentice the chance to complete a prestige double, after winning the 2YO Colts and Geldings Sales Classic Final with Major Martini last Friday night,” Manning said.
Havercroft says Has No Fear has a class edge over her rivals.
“Half the field are maidens and her main rival, Soho Interceptor, will come from the back line,” he said.
TABradio’s two Matts - McDermott and Young - together with Guild president Wayne Currall are keen on Ardens Concord.
“He hasn’t been beaten far recently and has the draw to settle close enough and be within striking distance,” McDermott said.
Young and Currall are in agreement.
“Ardens Concord has been flying since returning and has the draw to lead and should be winning on recent form,” Young said.
Currall says Arden Concord has his hoof on the till and is ready to salute on Friday night.
“Ardens Concord is cherry ripe after four runs back from a spell and is poised to score here,” he said.
Longshot guru Pat Harding believes classy filly Typhoon Tiff can upstage her male rivals.
“Although there is quite a deal of form in this race, I think Typhoon Tiff is a cut above the rest and is always well driven by trainer Colin Brown,” Harding said. “I expect the filly to show her class and have a good win.”
GPTV’s Ken Casellas is a loyal bloke. This is the third time he’s made Liberty Rose his best bet - maybe third time lucky.
“Bad luck continues to dog consistent mare Liberty Rose and the time is ripe for her to enjoy some good fortune on Friday night when she will start from the inside of the back line in the final event,” Casellas said. “She has the ability to unwind a sparkling late burst and she is my star bet on the 10-event card.”
RWWA’s racing communications co-ordinator Tim Walker has settled on the consistent Handsandwheels as his best bet.
“I’m tipping Handsandwheels to lead all the way,” Walker said. “He just looks to get a lovely run at the front here. He’s racing in terrific form and I think he’s the best bet on the program.”
VALUE BETS
HAYDEN: Soho Wonder will be sneaking through late again. One for the exotics.
STUART: Ardens Concord has been forced to cover a ton of ground at each of his last three runs. At each of those runs he finished hard on the heels of the placegetters. The two draw here brings him in with each-way claims.
ERNIE: Liberty Rose has not won in her past 11 starts, but she possesses the ability to bounce back. The four-year-old had difficulty getting a clear run when finishing fifth last Friday night. She was only narrowly beaten in her previous race.
RYAN: Vincenzo Perrugia has been racing often, and very well, since joining the Tony Svilicich stable. Drawn to dictate the pace in the 4YO & 5YO Championship and a most interesting runner.
MATT M: Mitch Maguire has his fair share of ability and finished only nine metres from the winner last start in the Pinjarra Cup after settling six back the pegs. HIs last win was against a similar line-up .
MATT Y: Ona Happy Note has drawn to get a lovely run in a race where there could be a genuine tempo and he could swoop late. Each-way value.
WAYNE: Back To The Beach is drawn to get the run of the race behind likely leader Livura in the opening event. Looks each-way all day and can win if he sees daylight in time.
PAT: The Annie Belton-trained Lady De La Renta hasn't had a great deal of luck in recent times, but she does have some class and I think Kim Prentice can steer her home at good odds.
KEN: Vultan Tin is awkwardly drawn out at barrier seven in the 1730m sprint. I’m tipping he’ll be putting the pressure on in the early stages.
TIM: Halle Rage was an impressive winner last week and has a favourable draw here. There does look to be some speed inside her, but she will put herself in the race early and may be able to hold out some smart types from the second row.
