James Butt, Bettor Aim and Typhoon Tiff are star bets at tomorrow night’s Gloucester Park meeting, according to members of the WA Trotting Media Guild.
The West Australian’s Ernie Manning and longshot king Pat Harding are keen on James Butt to continue on his winning ways.
“New Zealand import James Butt possesses versatility which should boost his prospects of winning from gate six,” Manning said. “He has led twice and come from behind once in his three wins from five WA starts. The gelding joined Ross Olivier’s stable soon after a Christchurch victory last year. He was highly impressive when scoring by almost 12m last Friday night.”
And Harding agrees.
“My best bet of the night comes up in race seven with No. 6 James Butt,” Harding said. “It was an excellent win last week and I think Chris Voak will be able to repeat that performance with James Butt over the sprint journey.”
Multiple winner of the Guild’s tipping competition Stuart Lowe and The West Australian’s racing co-ordinator Ryan Havercroft believe classy filly Typhoon Tiff can win the last on the 10-event card.
“My best bet is the outstanding filly Typhoon Tiff, who has won brilliantly at both her starts this season,” Lowe said. “Looks to carry too many guns again.”
Havercroft also has been impressed with Typhoon Tiff.
“Typhoon Tiff meets a stronger field than last week when she cruised to victory in the Daintys Daughter Classic,” Havercroft said. “She appears to be well-placed for a tilt at the upcoming three-year-old feature races.”
TABradio’s Matt Young and RWWA’s racing communications co-ordinator Tim Walker believe punters can add to their bank early doors by supporting Bettor Aim in the first.
“Bettor Aim has a nice draw to punch through and lob handy,” Young said. “And with his main danger drawn very wide, I think Ryan Warwick will get the job done on the smart gelding.”
Walker concurs.
“Bettor Aim is a classy animal on the rise,” Walker said. “Was good in winning here last week and I think he can make it two on the bounce here.”
Budding racecaller Hayden King has made Sweet N Fast his best bet.
“Sweet N Fast can sit around mid-division off a hot pace and swoop home to win,” King said.
GPTV’s Ken Casellas has gone out on a limb by making squaregaiter Lifes Delight his best for the evening.
“A stylish frontrunning performance by Lifes Delight to win a 2185m mobile trot at Pinjarra on Monday afternoon has influenced me to declare the lightly-raced six-year-old on Friday night,” Casellas said. “Lifes Delight switches to a stand and looks the likely leader from barrier two on the front line. He trotted faultlessly on Monday and if he reproduces that form he will take plenty of catching.”
Guild president Wayne Currall also has plucked one out of the air with Halle Rage.
“Hall Rage is the first emergency for the Lewis Fillies & Mares Final,” Currall explained. “I always like backing a horse made first emergency, who doesn’t get a start in a final, but races in another event on the night. Halle Rage should have derived plenty of benefit from her first outing in almost six months a fortnight ago. She’s drawn to get an economical run and has A. C. Lewis in the cart.”
VALUE BETS
ERNIE: Burning Shadows, with the aid of gate one in a 1730m event, looks capable of bouncing back after unplaced runs at his past four starts.
PAT: Ardens Concord is due for a win and could bob up two starts in from a spell and give trainer Ross Olivieri a back-to-back double in races six and seven.
STUART: My value bet is the luckless Ardens Concord, who did a power of work before running fourth to Soho Chelsea last week. This race looks easier.
RYAN: Naval Aviator has been racing well of late, including a hat-trick of wins last month. Drawn to be prominent with the favourite coming from the back line.
MATT: Simba Bromac has a really soft draw here and was eye-catching last start. Will be powering home late with some luck.
TIM: Clarenden Hustler scored an opportunistic win here last week in the very last strides. Think this horse is a chance to be prominent here in what looks an even race.
HAYDEN: Simba Bromac jetted home when finding room late last outing and, with enough mid-race pace, can pick his way through and win.
KEN: Atmospherical has the ability to overcome the awkward draw at barrier six. He led from barrier three last Friday night and fought on with grim determination when second to Caviar Star in a 2503m stand.
WAYNE: Neighlor is drawn to get a cosy run behind likely leader Soho Chelsea and appeals as a sound each-way investment.
