The members of the WA Trotting Media Guild have come up with a number of best bets for Friday night’s meeting at Gloucester Park.
Last season’s leading tipster Stuart Lowe is sticking with a winning formula with the grand, old performer Bettors Fire.
“My best bet is Bettors Fire, who is in sparkling form with five wins and a second from his last six starts,” Lowe said. “Has explosive gate speed and likely to lead all the way.”
The West Australian’s Ernie Manning and Guild president Wayne Currall are keen on the in-form Tyler Brett.
“Tyler Brett has the ability to overcome his bad draw and score a fifth consecutive win when switching back to Gloucester Park,” Manning said. “He was highly impressive in wins at Narrogin and Northam last month.”
And Currall agrees with his colleague.
“Dylan Egerton-Green has Tyler Brett racing in career-best form,” Currall said. “Although he’s drawn the river, this appears to be a drop in class from his recent victories. I think he’ll prove too strong for his rivals.”
Longshot king Pat Harding believes Soho Changeling can deliver for punters.
“I think Soho Changeling, trained by Ross Olivieri and driven by Shannon Suvaljko, can upset the favourite Millwood Molly,” Harding said. “She should be at good each-way odds in what is not a particularly strong race.”
But GPTV’s Ken Casellas is at odds with Harding and has made Millwood Molly his best bet for the night.
“Shane Young’s team is firing and smart punters will be keen to leap on to the bandwagon and support Millwood Molly in race eight on Friday night,” Casellas said.
“The lightly raced five-year-old is an outstanding frontrunner and she has drawn perfectly at barrier one in the 2130m event and is my best bet. She started from the back line and covered extra ground when a fighting last-start third behind Our Corelli at Bunbury. She led and won impressively at Northam and Narrogin at her two previous outings.”
TABradio’s Matt Young is keen on Handsandwheels.
“Handsandwheels excels as a frontrunner and has the perfect draw,” Young said. “He should go the trip here from the perfect draw.”
The West Australian’s racing co-ordinator Ryan Havercroft has earmarked the classy Franco Edward as his star bet.
“Franco Edward looks to have strong claims in the upcoming Golden Slipper and should be hard to catch in Friday’s prelude,” Havercroft said. “His main opposition will come from Bletchley Park. The two clashed in the recent Pearl Classic and Franco Edward beat him home by 14m on that occasion.”
TABradio’s Matt McDermott has settled on Maczaffair as his best.
“Maczaffair drops in class here,” McDermott said. “She has won previously from same or similar barriers and distance.”
VALUE BETS
Stuart: My value bet is Tubbs Farquhar, who raced without luck at his last two runs here when unplaced. Drops in class here and with the advantage of the pole draw comes in with strong each-way claims.
Ernie: Im Rockaria has been unplaced at his past four starts but should be able to take advantage of gate two. He had a back-row draw and a gear malfunction at his last start.
Wayne: Chevrons Champion always improves from an inside gate and she gets that on Friday night. Should be able to position up handy and represents good each-way value.
Pat: Soho Leviathan, trained and driven by Clinton Hall, could be the way to go. He should be at good value in a field that is pretty devoid of form.
Ken: For value I suggest Livin La Bamba, who will start from the outside of the front line in race nine, a 1730m sprint. The nine-year-old unwound a sizzling burst at Bunbury last Saturday night when he was last in a field of nine with 350m to travel and got home to score a dramatic victory.
Matt Y: Courage Tells is perfectly drawn and with a lot of speed in the race represents each-way value from the pegs run.
Ryan: Toto Picasso is having his first run in the stable of Kristian Hawkins. He led and was only collared in the shadows of the post from the same draw two starts back at Kellerberrin.
Matt M: I like Village Benny for a bit of value. His last few runs have been credible, and he moves down a few spots with scratchings. If things go his way he should be in the finish.
