Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) Stewards have issued two charges against licensed trainer-driver Brett Cox under Australian Harness Racing Rule (AHRR) 241 which states:
A person shall not in connection with any part of the harness racing industry do anything which is fraudulent or corrupt.
It is alleged that Mr Cox acted fraudulently in relation to receiving payment for the training of horses ‘Lis Mara Shadow’ and ‘Life Sign Shadow’ when these horses were spelling at the relevant time. It is also alleged that Mr Cox acted fraudulently in advising the owners that these horses were present at his registered training establishment when they had been removed.
HRV Stewards have also issued further charges under AHRR 187(2), 243 and 96A(3), alleging that Mr Cox gave false evidence; behaved in a manner detrimental to the harness racing industry; and failed to notify HRV that these horses had been retired from racing.
The charges will be heard by the HRV Racing Appeals and Disciplinary (RAD) Board on a date to be fixed.
