HAVING broken the track record earlier this week, Al Bundy will require a carbon copy performance if he is to emerge triumphant at Globe Derby on Saturday night.

That’s the call from trainer Greg Norman, who remains confident of capturing the Fred Jones Trotters’ Cup at Globe Derby.

The thing is, Norman’s belief rests predominantly on Al Bundy’s stablemate, Rocknroll Baby.

Successful on the same program as Al Bundy’s record-breaking win, Rocknroll Baby will begin from the front line, while the gelding faces a daunting task from a 70-metre handicap.

The daughter of Rock N Roll Heaven is making her open class debut, having competed among the nation’s best three-year-old fillies last season.

“If she can get to the front and do everything right, she is going to be very hard to catch,” Norman said.

“I worked them yesterday and there was very little between them, so giving her a 70-metre start is a big ask from Al.

“Add traffic he will have to get around into the equation and he’ll most likely have to run another track record to win.

“Given the way the way he is racing and feeling, that’s not out of the question, it will come down to what kind of run he gets.”

With next month’s South Australia Trotters’ Cup the pair’s main mission, Norman plans to give the squaregaiters another run leading into the feature.

The Group Two is part of the stellar January 13 program, which includes the Group Ones Pacing Cup and Derby.

“The Trotters’ Cup is what I am aiming for with both of them,” Norman said. “Rocknroll Baby is stepping up this week, but if she can prove herself Like I believe she will, then the Cup looks like a great option.”
