EXCITING freshman Aldebaran Dexta has been sent for a spell ahead of late season features.
Stretching his record to two wins and a second from three starts with an authoritative victory at Globe Derby last night, Aldebaran Dexta will enjoy the remainder of winter relaxing.
Upon his return the two-year-old will be aimed at the Southern Cross and a possible interstate campaign.
With the son of Aldebaran Eagle eligible for futurities such as the Breeders’ Crown and Vicbred Super Series, trainer Ryan Hryhorec is hopeful Aldebaran Dexta will justify a border-hopping trip.
“He has just done everything so naturally and gives the feel of a very nice trotter,” Hryhorec said. “I’ve got a pretty big opinion of him and can’t see any reason why that will change any time soon.
“Really he should be unbeaten, but for a lack of concentration at his second start.
“He’s eligible for pretty much all the big races later in the year so that’s the way I want to head with him.
“I’ll give him a good break now then get him ready for those races when the time comes.”
Driven by Hryhorec, Aldebaran Dexta worked to the lead from barrier four with the remainder of the 1800-metre even becoming a formality.
Striding clear of the pack around the final bend, the gelding was untouched on his way to a 20-and-a-half metre win from Graywoods Diamond.
Wishing For You was 24 metres away third in 2:07.
Aldebaran Dexta’s success was the closing leg of a training double for Hryhorec, who prepared Son Of Rayson to score with Dani Hill in the cart.
Leading throughout from the pole, Son Of Rayson rated 1:59.2 over 1800 metres as Steinman and Cavalryman filled the placings.
“That was his second run back for two wins after six months off,” Hryhorec said. “I had him gelded during his time off and it appears to have got his mind on the job better.
“On what he has done so far he should be able to keep going through the grades at Globe Derby.”
