Team Teal will again grace NSW harness racing tracks in 2020 with HRNSW and Tabcorp announcing the industry Ambassadors who with all other female drivers will be raising funds to be dedicated to ovarian cancer research.

From February through to mid-March the Ambassadors KerryAnn Morris, Amanda Turnbull, Ellen Bartley, Sarah Rushbrook and Ashley Hart will wear the Team Teal colours whilst all female drivers will wear the distinctive teal driving pants.

Each winning drive will raise $400 for the Australia New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group as Tabcorp has committed to match HRNSW dollar-for-dollar.

The Ambassadors however are also recognised as leading trainers in their respective Regions and if a horse trained by them wins with a male driver aboard, $100 will be contributed to the fund by HRNSW and Tabcorp.

In 2019 $36,000 was raised and this is expected to be higher in 2020 due to the fact that each of the Ambassadors are prominent trainers in the Regions with KerryAnn Morris and Amanda Turnbull two of the leading trainers in NSW.

Other fundraising initiatives will develop during the six weeks of the campaign with the Newcastle Club dedicating a race meeting towards the NSW effort during March. The Mini Trot movement is also contributing to the awareness of the campaign.

“From little things big things grow so said Paul Kelly and this is exactly the case since Duncan McPherson launched the Team Team promotion in 2014 in Victoria only,” HRNSW Chief Executive John Dumesny said.

“In 2020 all of Australia will be engaged in the fund raising activities.”

“Each year in NSW the funds have exceeded the previous and that is as a result of the generosity of the industry to such a worthwhile cause and I fully expect the same outcome this year,”

“The individual donations which flow from owners, trainers and drivers on top of what is guaranteed by HRNSW and Tabcorp are considerable and actually add to the pledge and this $50,000 plus is not an unrealistic figure.”

The Team Teal promotion commences with Tabcorp Park Menangle and Newcastle on February 1 and concludes on March 14 again at Menangle and Newcastle.
