Aston Villa USA (Artsplace (US) – Villa Storm (US)) has been voted the 2019 Australian Broodmare of the Year.

Owned by Anne and Bill Anderson of Lauriston Bloodstock, Aston Villa was imported into Australia in 2006. On the racetrack, Aston Villa won on debut at Kilmore, Victoria in 2007 and ended her short racing career a winner of 4 races from 9 starts for the late trainer Alan Tubbs.

After entering the breeding barn in 2009, the progeny of Aston Villa soon began to shine on the racetrack. Her first foal, by Rocknroll Hanover USA was the Cranbourne Cup winner and now sire, Yankee Rockstar (22 wins and $239,048). Soon followed the Group 1 placed filly, Yankee Showgirl (4 wins and $32,806) and three times Group One placed and Group Two winner Born To Rocknroll (17 wins and $292,074 to date).

After missing the following year, Aston Villa was served by Somebeachsomewhere USA and the resultant foal was Poster Boy – the Australian Three Year Old Colt of the Year and five time Group One winner including the Chariots of Fire in 1:49.1 and the NSW Derby. To date, Poster Boy is the winner of 19 races and $782,700.

Aston Villa has since left the promising type, Zoliver and has a two year old colt by Bettors Delight USA and a yearling colt by Somebeachsomewhere USA.

To date, the progeny of Aston Villa have won 65 races from 128 starts and $1,463,035.

Anne and Bill Anderson of Lauriston Bloodstock were presented with the Winona Award by Harness Racing Australia Chairman Michael Taranto at the recent Harness Breeders Victoria awards ceremony.
