Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) has today announced the nominations for the 2019 Western Australian Harness Horse of the Year.

The competition for the Open Horse of the Year looks as strong as ever with the deeds of talented four-year-old’s Ana Malak and Mighty Conqueror enough to put them among the nominations.

WA Pacing Cup winner Rocknroll Lincoln headlines the eight nominations for the showpiece award, a season where the Justin Prentice-trained pacer won six of his 12 starts.

As well as having Ana Malak and Mighty Conqueror nominated for the award, training partnership Greg and Skye Bond also have Galactic Star and El Jacko in the running.

Despite not winning a Group 1 this season, Chicago Bull has also been nominated, as have Vultan Tin and Handsandwheels.

The Three-Year-Old Colt or Gelding award also looks set to be hotly contested by seven outstanding pacers.

WA Derby winner Major Trojan is joined by stablemate Eloquent Mach in the nominations, while WA Derby placegetters Bletchley Park and Franco Edward are also in the reckoning.

Typhoon Tiff and Has No Fear are the two Group 1 winners nominated for the Three-Year-Old Filly of the Year.

Mares Classic winner Millview Sienna is among six nominations for the Open Mare of the Year.

The outcome of the Two-Year-Old Colt or Gelding of the Year is also set to attract plenty of interest with three Group 1 winners nominated.

Jaspervellabeach took out the Golden Slipper and looks a key contender, while Major Martini and Manning did their chances no harm by taking out the Pearl Classic and Westbred Classic respectively.

Double Expresso’s wins in the Westbred and Sales Classic is sure to have her right in the hunt for the Two-Year-Old Filly of the Year, where Some Copper Beach and Askmeilltellya are also nominated.

The 2019 WA Harness Horse of the Year Awards take place on 20 October.
