New South Wales Aged Mare of the Year My Rona Gold

HARNESS Racing New South Wales is delighted with the response from participants supporting the additional dedicated races for fillies and mares that were introduced in July.

From July 1 until November 13 this year, 161 races for fillies and mares were held - an increase of 72 races during the same period the previous year.

This equates to an 80 per cent increase in races conducted, of which there were 142 individual winners.

These races were introduced based on stakeholder feedback and the desire of HRNSW to provide additional opportunities for fillies and mares to race their own sex.

Designated races for fillies and mares will continue to be programmed every week throughout the season and are guaranteed with six original nominations.

Where races for the fairer sex are not programmed, priority will continue to be taken to formulate a fillies/mares division from nominations received at all meetings, however, with an emphasis on maximum field sizes.

The second division metropolitan mares’ races, which in fact are additional races at Tabcorp Park Menangle, have proven to be an instant success.

In total an additional $336,000 in prizemoney has been provided by HRNSW for fillies and mares only races for the Financial Year.

Harness Racing NSW would like to take this opportunity to thank owners, trainers and clubs for supporting this initiative.
