Omnipresent racing journalist Adam Hamilton headed the list of media personalities honoured by Harness Racing Australia (HRA) members at their Annual General Meeting earlier this week.

Mr Hamilton was awarded the HRA Meritorious Service Award which recognises achievement, commendable effort and diligence over a long period of time. Harness racing has been at the centre of a media career spanning more than twenty years, with roles across all mediums including as a Sky Racing presenter, print and on-line stories with the Herald-Sun, various radio roles with Radio Sport National and Twitter – often simultaneously.
The meeting also approved Joseph Coulter Media Awards for meritorious service in the media to respected journalists Mr Greg Mansfield from Tasmania and Mr Ernie Manning from Western Australia.
Recently inducted into the Tasracing Hall of Fame, Mr Mansfield has been covering Tasmanian racing stories with The Launceston Examiner in meticulous detail for over thirty years and is universally admired throughout the industry for his balanced reporting and color pieces.
Similarly, Mr Manning has enjoyed a rich history, long association and great passion for racing in Western Australia. The popular journalist is renowned for his accuracy and human interest stories published in The West Australian newspaper and segments on Racing Radio.
In congratulating the award recipients, HRA Chairman, Mr Geoff Want paid tribute to the important role they have played in the harness racing industry. "The HRA is always very conscious of its history and recognising those people who have done so much for our industry.”
“We understand that the fight for media space has never been tougher and our industry is indebted to journalists such as Adam, Greg and Ernie who write and pitch stories to promote our industry on a daily basis,” Mr Want said. “These latest Awards are acknowledgement by everyone in the industry of the exceptional, and often unrewarded effort of these gentlemen over a long period of time."
