Patrikiar was leading lady on Saturday night after taking out the feature of the meeting, the WASBA/Allwood Stud Farm Virgil Queen Celebration for Westbred Mares for trainer Craig Hynam and Shannon Suvaljko.
Starting at $12 odds, the four-year-old settled behind the leader after surrendering the front early and after taking the quickest route home using the sprint lane, went on to win by 2.5m in 1:59:6 over the 2190m journey.
“Shannon and I thought she was way over the odds. The favourite beat her by a metre a few starts ago in town and if that race went another 20 metres, I think she could have won that night, she loves it when they roll along, it they run solid she’s always a chance.”
Taking her on just over a year ago, Patrikiar has since had 37 starts for the Hynam stable for seven wins as well as a second placing in the Gr3 Harry Capararo Westbred Mares feature at Gloucester Park in June.
“Shannon has driven her to all her wins, he knows her so well and gets the best out of her,”
“When I first got her she used to pace a bit awkward and run around a bit, but she’s gotten better as she’s gone along as she was just immature.”
Hynam is hopeful that Patrikiar will now get a start in the HWOE NE$40,000 mares’ races in town and will be looking for an eligible mares race for her going forward.
Shannon Suvaljko drove a double on the card with Queeninthecorner taking out race five for trainer Mike Reed. Returning this week after a short let up, the $1.20 favourite led all the way over the 2190m trip in 1:59:4.
Bramante Steps took out the second on the card for Murray Lindau and Kyle Harper, with the $2.25 coming out on top in 2:04:5 over the 2190m journey.
It was a night for doubles with Deni Roberts continuing her great weekend in the cart, taking out race one on Belonero for Matt Scott. Belonero hadn’t won since January this year, but on Saturday night the four-year-old settled in the one-one position over the 2620m, but although he is small in stature, he was all heart, clinging on to win by a neck in 2:03:4.
Roll Up NZ worked to the lead early to go all the way in race six for Team Bond and Deni Roberts. The $1.24 favourite managed to kick away over the 2190m, with a winning margin of 8m in 1:59:6.
Dylan Egerton-Green also walked away with a driving double with Saligo Bay breaking a long spell between wins. Trained by Jesse Moore, the five-year-old who hadn’t won since November 2020 settled behind the leader over the 2190m trip, pulling out wide with just under 200m to go to win by 3.4m in 2:00:6.
Egerton-Green closed the meeting with a win, with Acuto NZ overcoming the 50m handicap to claim the 2560m standing start race for trainer Chris Phatouros in 2:02:0.
