'B' Grade Metropolitan Driver Licences

15 July 2022

Previously ‘B’ Grade Drivers who met eligibility criteria could apply for a metropolitan licence allowing them to drive in a limited number of races with restricted prizemoney at metropolitan race meetings.

As a result of recent prizemoney increases resulting in all metropolitan races now having prizemoney of $20,000 minimum, the opportunity for ‘B’ Grade Drivers to drive in a limited number of races with restricted prizemoney is no longer available.

Consequently, as of 1 July 2022, HRNSW has removed the ‘B’ Grade metropolitan licence category and no further applications for such licence will be processed.

Drivers Who Currently Hold a ‘B’ Grade Metropolitan Licence

From 1 July 2022 until 31 December 2022, to provide ‘B’ Grade Drivers who currently hold a metropolitan licence an opportunity to obtain their ‘A” Grade licence, these drivers will continue to be able to drive in any race at a metropolitan race meeting, with the exception of a Group race.

From 1 January 2023, only drivers who hold an ‘A’ Grade Driver’s Licence will be able to drive at Metropolitan race meetings, with the exception of invitational races such as the J.C. Caffyn Plate, Rising Stars and Lady Drivers.
