Cam reaching for the stars

SYDNEY reinsman Cameron Hart is like most elite sportspeople that set themselves standards and goals that they aspire to in their pursuit to stay at the top of their game.

For Hart, his main objectives in harness racing were to reach the century mark of wins in a season and to take out the state’s drivers’ premiership, both of which he achieved last year.

In the current term, Cam again heads the drivers’ premiership table in New South Wales with 98 wins under his belt and sits third on the national standings behind Queensland pair Peter McMullen and Nathan Dawson.

On Saturday night at Tabcorp Park Menangle, the talented horseman took the driving honors  by landing a winning treble aboard Yoha, I Cast No Shadow and squaregaiter Doff Your Cap.

But his main focus over the past few days has been on his assignment to drive Ideal Dan in the Group 3 M. H. Treuer Memorial, a $50,000 Group 3 feature at Bankstown this afternoon.

“To drive a treble at any race meeting is satisfying, but to do it at a Saturday night metropolitan meeting is extra special and it is something I have been fortunate to do more than once,” said Hart.

“The performances of all three horses impressed me, and it was super to salute aboard Yoha as it gave Mitch Chapple his maiden city success as a trainer.

“But I am really excited about the future of Doff Your Cap.

“A void has been left in the square trotting ranks in Sydney with the absence of Tough Monarch, but I am confident that ‘Doff’ has what it takes to take the mantle.”

It is Ironic that Doff Your Cap is trained by Jarrod Alchin, whose brother Rickie prepared Tough Monarch.

Alchin also has big wraps on the Michael Boots-owned trotter.

“He has a huge motor and a great turn of speed,” said Alchin.

“His win on Saturday night really confirmed my opinion of him and now we will sit back and set a pathway for him.”

The Bankstown TAB Carnival of Cups meeting this afternoon is highlighted by the time honoured Treuer Memorial and Hart believes Jason Grimson-trained Ideal Dan deserves to be favourite, despite not been seen at the races since May 7 when he finished midfield at Menangle in the APG final.
