THRIVING since arriving in South Australia, C K Spur has stamped himself as the ‘King’ of the state.
Making his debut for leading trainer Ryan Hryhorec last September, C K Spur has had eight local starts for seven wins and a third.
Three of those victories have been in country cups during the past month, which served as heats for tonight’s SA Trotters’ Cup at Globe Derby, which the son of Pegasus Spur added to his growing tally just moments ago.
Overcoming a daunting 50-metre handicap, C K Spur deserved the victory according to Hryhorec.
“He hasn’t set a foot wrong since he got here and has been a wonderful pick up,” Hryhorec said.
“His runs in this series have been terrific and after dominating the country cups he deserved to win the main Cup as well.
“I was slightly concerned about his handicap against a full field as I was worried traffic would be an issue, but thankfully that wasn’t the case.”
With Hryhorec in the cart C K Spur began brilliantly to quickly catch the field as Regal Assassin led from the pole.
Gaining a three-wide trail heading into the back straight, the gelding was angled to the outside on the final bend before sprinting to a six-and-a-half metre win from Millys Magic.
Scruffy Doolan was eight metres away third in 2:02 over 2645 metres.
“After he began so well to be with the field before they even left the straight the first time I knew it would take a massive run to beat him,” Hryhorec said.
“With a lap to go I knew he had them covered and then it was just waiting for the right time to set him loose.
“Once he turned for home he just knuckled right down and got to the line with plenty up his sleeve.
“He’s had a long campaign for these cups, so I will back off on him this week and look to see what is around for him before making any decisions on what is next.”
