Burwood Stud , situated on the fertile Darling Downs , has been a huge asset to the Breeding Industry in Queensland for many years now.

It is a Family run business headed up by Noel and Christine Denning and their son Jonathon and grandson Caleb.  They are now putting the final polish on 33 yearlings heading to the NEDS APG Sale on the Gold Coast this Sunday.

Amongst that draft of 33 are seven yearlings sired by former Kiwi bred champion racehorses Changeover , Lazarus and Ultimate Machete.   All three of these horses were voted the New Zealand 3 Year Old Pacers of the Year and are sons of the champion Sires In The Pocket and Bettors Delight respectively.

Changeover won 29 races and in excess of $2.4 million in a glittering career that saw him win two Derbies , a New Zealand Cup and a Breeders Crown Final.

He has now sired well over 300 winners between Australia and New Zealand that have collectively won over $11 million in prizemoney.

The Denning Family are offering LOT 81 – a strong and lovely walking Colt from their Blissfull Hall mare Wandary Splash 1.52.7.   He is the first colt from a mare who won 22 races and $158,390 so there is certainly plenty of speed genes running through this Colt’s pedigree.

Burwood are also prepping two Changeover colts for Daren and Gayle Garrard ;

LOT 43  -  from the Cammibest mare Mad Milly.  He also presents as a strongly built type and is the first foal of a daughter of Mad Mel 1.56.8 , a winner of almost $100,000.

LOT  45  -  a well built colt from a Group 2 winning mare Mathilda Diventa 1.55.  Both this colt and Lot 43 are from Cam Fella line mares and two of the best progeny sired by Changeover have been from Cam Fella line mares   -  sounds like these two boys are on the right track to success.

What can we say about Lazarus that the Harness Racing World doesn’t already know ?

Bettors Delight’s greatest son , a $4.4 million earner and winner of 15 Group One races is just a starting point.   His first Australian yearlings will be on offer on Sunday and three of them [ all colts ] are being prepped at Burwood for their owner Tumby Park Pty Ltd.

From what we have seen in North America and here in Australia to date , Lazarus is siring great , athletic looking types that appear destined to keep Lazarus’s name in lights for quite a few more years yet.

LOT  10  -  a mature and big Colt from Colada Belle .  Apart from being a half sister to the mighty Blacks A Fake , also a winner of $4 million plus , she is already the Dam of 5 winners in 1.58 or better from her first 6 foals.

LOT  13  -  an athletic and mature looking  Colt from the former Australian Record holding Filly Courageous Annie 1.52.6    The number 13 might be unlucky for some but Noel Denning thinks this colt could be the one to put Annie on the map as a broodmare.

“ Most of Annie’s previous foals have been small , insignificant types whereas this lad is a really good type.  There is something about him after working with him that puts a spring in your step “  said Noel a couple of days ago.

LOT  38  -  a Colt with some Wow factor about him.  His Mum could run – 11 wins and a 1.54.9 record tells us that and he is from a Family that gave us an Inter Dominion winner in Golden Reign.

Ultimate Machete was a powerhouse on the racetrack .  He became New Zealand’s fastest ever horse over the 1950 metre trip when he parked outside of Tiger Tara in the 2017 NZ Free For All and beat him.  His breeding is a perfect ten -  by Bettors Delight from a NZ Broodmare of the Year in Reality Check.  His very first Yearling to be offered anywhere in the World will go under the hammer this Sunday at the NEDS APG Queensland Sale as ;

LOT  17  - a mature and strong looking colt from a Group One winning Mach Three mare Dont Break My Ark 1.57.9.   There appears to be a lot of his Dad’s looks in him which must be a big plus. His pedigree is Five Star as well  -  his Dam , his Granddam and his Third Dam were all elite performers on the racetrack and both his brothers are now winners in 1.55.9 and 1.56.8 respectively.

The NEDS APG Sale on Sunday is glittering with future stars of the racetrack  -  they will all be accommodated in the Chester Barn at the Magic Millions Complex. This is where your Dream begins.

Neds-APG have been able to assemble 88 distinguished Lots for the Neds -APG Gold Coast Sale happening at 28 Ascot Ct, Bundall QLD, this Sunday the 23rd of January 2022.

John Coffey will be inspecting all of the Gold Coast yearlings over this sales weekend, and will be pleased to answer any questions that you may have on the individuals featuring in the sale, or to bid on your behalf.  John can be contacted on 0418 500 211.
