HE CAUGHT punters and his rivals off guard twice yesterday, but the victories were no huge surprise to talented concession driver Nick Brown.

Registering his first double at Globe Derby, Brown’s winners paid $71 and $81 on the Tote.

Brown’s running double, which are trained by Phillip Westbury, returned $142.

A naturally excited Brown stated he was quietly confident the pair would run solid races, especially his second winner, Giant Jackson.

“Their form doesn’t look good on paper, but both went well during their previous start,” Brown said.

“I gave them a sneaky chance, especially Jackson as it was a real big drop in class for him.

“He’s gone from racing against up to 69 to dropping back to a 45 to 51 race, which suits him a lot better.”

Giant Jackson completed a metre-and-a-half win from Yappas Courage, with Manoeuver Man a head away third.

Rating 2:00.6 over 1800 metres, the son of Four Starzzz Shark broke a 13-month drought from the winners’ circle.

A race earlier Brown guided Giftedfromtheheart to a 2:00.5 triumph over 1800 metres.

Breaking his maiden at his eighth start, the son of Shadow Play accounted for Trappertwo and Triplets.

“He got the run of the race and was able to make the most of it,” Brown said. “That was his first win and on that effort he should be able to pick up a few more.”
