Harness Racing New South Wales (HRNSW) Stewards have concluded an Inquiry on Monday 10 May 2021 following notice of an alleged incident between licensed participants, Mr Tony Camilleri and Mr Reece Moore at the Broken Hill Harness meeting on Saturday 27 March 2021.
Licensed Trainer Mr Tony Camilleri and Licensed Driver Mr Reece Moore provided evidence to the Inquiry in addition to seven witnesses.
Following consideration of the evidence, HRNSW Stewards issued two charge against Mr Camilleri pursuant to Australian Harness Racing Rule (AHRR) 231(2) and 231(1)(e)
Charge 1 –
AHRR 231 (2)
231 (2) A person shall not misconduct himself in any way.
Mr Camilleri did following to running of Race 2 at the said meeting misconduct himself by making inappropriate comments to Mr Moore.
Charge 2 –
AHRR 231 (1) (e)
231 (1) (e) A person shall not assault anyone employed, engaged or participating in the harness racing industry or otherwise having a connection with it.
Mr Camilleri did following to running of Race 2 at the said meeting did assault Mr Moore by grabbing the driving colours worn by Mr Moore and pushing him when returning to the race day stalls.
Mr Camilleri pleaded guilty to both charges.
Charge 1 - $500 fine
Charge 2 - $4000 fine ($2000 of the penalty suspended for 2 years on the condition of good behaviour and no further breaches for conduct related matters)
In determining penalty, Stewards gave consideration to the following matters:
• The serious nature of the offences;
• Mr Camilleri’s guilty plea and obvious remorse;
• Mr Camilleri’s overall licence history and other personal subjective facts.
Mr Camilleri was informed of his right to appeal the decision of HRNSW Stewards.
