A REPRIEVE from Melbourne’s cold weather is the reward awaiting Aladdin following his South Australia Derby triumph during the weekend.

Having his second start for Victorian-based former ‘Crow Eater’ Greg Norman, Aladdin completed a soft win in the Blue Riband.

As such, Norman is contemplating a trip north in the middle of winter.

Should he make an interstate trek Norman will take the son of Sweet Lou to the Sunshine State for the Queensland Derby.

The Blue Riband is scheduled to be conducted at Albion Park on July 24.

“It’s not set in concrete, but we are looking at the Queensland Derby with him,” Norman said.

“That’ll be another step up for him, but everything he has shown so far suggests he will be competitive.

“We’ve given him two starts for two wins, so you can’t ask for anything more from him than that.”

With Kerryn Manning in the cart Aladdin led throughout from barrier two to register a six-metre win from Bondi Lockdown.

Apieceoflou, a stablemate of the winner, was a metre-and-a-half away third.

Rating 1:57.5 over 2230 metres, Aladdin stretched his record to five wins and seven placings from 19 starts for earnings of $182,681.

“Once he got to the front he was always going to be hard to run down,” Norman said.
