New Inquiries

 

  • 15 March 2021 – Mrs KerryAnn Morris - HRNSW Stewards have commenced an investigation in relation to a report from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that Levamisole had been detected in the post-race urine sample taken from BLACK EDITION following its win in race 8, the DFK CROSBIE PACE (1609 metres) conducted at Newcastle on Saturday 12 December 2020 and its win in Race 1, the STAY SAFE, STAY HOME PACE (1720 metres) conducted at Penrith on Wednesday 30 December 2020. The “B” sample has been confirmed by Racing Analytical Services LTD (RASL) in Victoria. The investigation is continuing.

 

  • 15 March 2021 – Mr Scott Wade - HRNSW Stewards have commenced an investigation in relation to a report from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that Levamisole had been detected in the pre-race blood sample taken from BETTER BRAGGER prior to race 3, the PRYDE’S EASIPERFORMANCE PACE (1609 metres) conducted at Menangle on Tuesday 11 August 2020 and in a urine taken from MANCHEGO following its win in Race 2, the WEDDING OPEN DAY 13 SEPT PACE (1609 metres) conducted at Menangle on Monday 31 August 2020. The “B” samples have been confirmed by Racing Analytical Services LTD (RASL) in Victoria. The investigation is continuing. On Thursday 25 March 2021 and acting under the provisions of Australian Harness Racing Rule 183, HRNSW Stewards have suspended the Training and Driving licences of Mr Scott Wade until a Stewards Inquiry is concluded. The investigation is continuing. On Thursday 1 April 2021, Mr Wade lodged an appeal with the NSW Racing Appeals Tribunal.

 

  • 15 March 2021 – Mr Sam Hewitt – HRNSW Stewards have commenced an investigation in relation to a report from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that O-desmethylvenlafaxine and O-desmethyltramadol had been detected in the post-race urine sample taken from FLYING BANYULA following its win in race 9, the GLEN MIA (ACT) PTY LTD MAIDEN PACE (1770 metres) conducted at Canberra on Monday 1 February 2021. The “B” sample has been sent to Racing Analytical Services LTD (RASL) in Victoria for confirmation. The investigation is continuing.

 

  • 26 March 2021 - Ms Amanda Turnbull – HRNSW Stewards have commenced an investigation in relation to a report from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that Triamcinolone Acetonide had been detected in the pre-race blood sample taken from WHOS MY MOTHER NZ prior to it running in race 3, the CORDINA FOOD CO NSW OAKS HEAT 1 (2400 metres) conducted at Menangle on Saturday 20 February 2021. The “B” sample has been confirmed by Racing Analytical Services LTD (RASL) in Victoria. The investigation is continuing.

 

  • 29 March 2021 – Mr Paul Russo - HRNSW Stewards have commenced an investigation in relation to a report from The Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that Levamisole has been detected in the urine sample taken from MAGIC OATS NZ following its win in race 5, the YIRRIBEE PACING STUD CLAIMING PACE (1609 metres) conducted at Tabcorp Park Menangle on Tuesday 15 December 2020. The “B” sample has been confirmed by Racing Analytical Services LTD (RASL) in Victoria. The investigation is continuing.

 

Inquiries Update

 

  • 22 March 2021 – Mr Nathan Carroll pleaded guilty to 35 charges in relation to his conduct (Treating of horses, corrupt conduct, enter premises, associate with disqualified person, possession of unregistered products and engaging in conduct prejudicial and/or detrimental to the harness racing industry) at various times between 2015 and 2018. The inquiry was adjourned for consideration of penalty. Subject to AHRR 15(d) Mr Carroll has been excluded from any property being used for any aspect of the harness racing industry.

 

Inquiries Concluded

 

  • 30 March - Mr Wayne Friend was disqualified for a period of 6 months following the presentation and administration of Heptaminol which had been detected in the urine sample taken from SCARROLLER following its win in race 3, the SQUIRES SIGNS/TYREPOWER BLAYNEY PACE (1640 metres) conducted at Blayney on Sunday 8 November 2020. Mr Friend was fined a further $500.00 for failing to maintain a treatment log book. The subject horse was disqualified under the provisions of AHRR 195. (original notice at www.hrnsw.com.au)

 

  • 30 March 2021 – Mr Peter Hanson HRNSW Stewards have finalised their investigation in relation to a report from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that Menthol had been detected in the post-race urine sample taken from LETTUCE PRAY following its win in race 1, the TAB PACE (1720 metres) conducted at Young on Tuesday 12 June 2018. The reserve portion was not confirmed. Following receipt of additional samples and the location of wild sage at the property of Mr Hanson, HRNSW Stewards were satisfied that on the balance of probabilities, the reported detection of Menthol was likely to be as a result of environmental contamination. As a result of these findings Stewards issued a charge for presentation, a conviction was recorded and no further penalty was issued. The subject horse was disqualified under the provisions of AHRR 195. (original notice at www.hrnsw.com.au)

 

  • 31 March 2021 – Mr Robert Garrett was disqualified for a period of 2 years following pleas of guilty for the presentation Heptaminol which had been detected in the post-race urine and blood sample taken from BONZA GUY following its win in race 2, the YANCO ALLSERVICEMENS CLUB PACE (1758 metres) conducted at Leeton on Tuesday 18 August 2020 & Cobalt above the threshold of 100 micrograms per litre in urine. The penalty has been ordered to commence from 2 November 2020 the day in which Mr Garrett was stood down. The subject horse was disqualified under the provisions of AHRR 195.   • 31 March 2021 – Mr Brent Berry fined $500 and had his licenced suspended for a period of 12 months for his conduct towards licenced participants at Coolamon Trials on Sunday 3 May 2020 and Coolamon HRC on Monday 4 May 2020. The period of suspension has been fully suspended for a period of 2 years on the condition that Mr Berry does not offend any conduct related matters during this period of time. Following the subject hearing, Stewards have further adjourned an inquiry with regards to the conduct of Mr Berry following the inquiry.

 

Integrity Information

 

  • During the month of March, HRNSW Integrity department has obtained745 Race day samples.
  • During the month of March, HRNSW Integrity department has obtained 11 participant samples and conducted 19 breath test at various meetings in NSW.
  • HRNSW Chief Steward Mr G Adams has tendered his resignation effective 23 June 2021.
