WA Field Selection Policy for Community Race Meetings

29 October 2019

The over-riding philosophy for the conduct of Community race meetings is that they cater for horses which find it difficult to be competitive on higher circuits.

Fields will therefore be selected in accordance with the following:

  1. Not Eligible winners of 2 or more races with stakes > $4,500 in their last 10 starts,
  2. Not Eligible winners of 1 or more race(s) with stakes > $14,999 in their last 10 starts,
  3. Not Eligible placegetters in 1 or more race(s) with stakes > $14,999 in their last 5 starts.

Preference in field selection will be given to Horses with L5$ LT$5,500 with the balance of the field to be selected on L5$ in ascending order (i.e. lowest to highest).  In Standing Start races this preference applies to each handicap mark.

A horse cleared from another jurisdiction with $0 stakemoney in their unplaced non-WA starts within their L5, will be deemed to have earned $100 unplaced stakes for each such start.

As part of a rotation some mobile race fields  will be selected entirely on L5$ in ascending order with horses with 5+ WA starts selected first then horses with LT 5 WA starts in descending number of starts. In some Standing Start races for each handicap mark the field will be selected on L5$ in ascending order with horses with 5+ WA starts selected first then horses with LT 5 WA starts in descending number of starts.

This policy will become effective as of 2nd November 2019.
