PROMISING pacer Bulletproof Boy will face his biggest test this preparation when he contests Sunday’s Gawler Cup.
Making an impression as he works his way through the grades – winning five of his nine starts this term – the Scott Ewen-trained son of Art Official is stepping up against “season campaigners” in the provincial feature.
In what doubles as his standing start debut, Bulletproof Boy will begin from barrier five – the outside of the front row.
Having given the four-year-old a trial from the tapes and practice during training, Ewen is confident Bulletproof Boy will step away cleanly.
“He goes away well,” Ewen said. “He’s not lightning fast, but is solid enough to go forward.
“Hopefully he takes his manners with him on race day, but I can’t see it being a problem.
“I’m confident enough to say he will let them know he’s there.”
Adding to Ewen’s confidence is Bulletproof Boy’s main dangers are giving him up to 30 metres head start.
Our Jericho will begin from the 30-metre back mark, while Futurist and Tezz Khora will come from the 20-metre line.
“Those three are the biggest threats,” Ewen said. “They’re all racing well and are seasoned campaigners.
“My Man Dan is also in good form and will be hard to beat from the front line.
“It’ll be an interesting test for my bloke and with a bit of luck he will come through it with flying colours.”
