Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) is a statutory body whose role is to oversee all harness racing activity in Victoria. We are committed to developing a vibrant and sustainable harness racing industry which promotes participation, integrity and racing excellence and grow returns to all our stakeholders.  We run approximately 450 race meetings per year at 28 tracks throughout Victoria. 

 

The Opportunity

HRV has a new and exciting opportunity within the Flemington Head Office to join the legal team in a full time role as the Risk and Compliance Lawyer.

Reporting to the General Counsel, the Risk & Compliance Lawyer  will be responsible for the strategic, operational and hands on support to HRV in relation to risk and compliance. This role will focus on creating and implementing strategies, program, policies and procedures for HRV and related entities.

You will be responsible for not limited to:

  • Providing legal support to General Counsel
  • Analyse and advise on third party agreements and sponsorship agreements
  • Provide assistance to General Counsel on employment law and procurement matters
  • Provide advice in relation to the rules of racing
  • Analyse and assess risk to ensure HRV and its registered clubs and kindred bodies comply with their responsibilities
  • Review, development and implement risk management strategies and risk management system
  • Ensure HRV compliance to Occupational Health & Safety, Equal Employment Opportunity, Privacy, Freedom of Information and other legislative and public sector requirements

 

About You

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • 3 – 8 year qualified legal practitioner admitted to practice in Australia (with experience in an in-house risk and compliance, combined with demonstrated experience (3-5 years) working in an operational risk management & compliance role;
  • Excellent computer skills, including intermediate skills in Microsoft Office applications;
  • A valid Driver’s Licence

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in a multilevel and mixed industry organisation; and
  • An understanding of the racing industry.
