For the purposes of encouraging the breeding of trotters in Queensland and to grow the current racing pool of trotters, the current season (2018/19) is the first season that a QBRED trotting feature event is scheduled.

To be conducted towards the end of the season at a date to be confirmed, likely August 2019, the feature 2YO QBRED Final will carry $10,000 in prizemoney.

Expanding in 2020 to also include a 3YO QBRED Final the benefits will continue to be developed for QBRED trotters into the future to maximize opportunities for young trotters going forward.

In addition, a development series for two year old trotters will be included in the 2019 program which will be available for all two year old trotters, not just QBRED’s, to help grow the racing pool, promote breeding and provide opportunities for young trotters.

This series is somewhat similar to the Foundation Series in New South Wales with the selection of races programmed from late June or early July 2019 to late August 2019 in the following format:

2YO Series (From 2019)

Heat 1                   $5,000

Heat 2                   $5,000

Heat 3                   $5,000

Final                       $15,000

QBRED Final        $10,000

This Series will also be expanded to include three year olds from 2020 with a likely program similar to below:

3YO Series (From 2020)

Heat 1                   $5,000

Heat 2                   $5,000

Heat 3                   $5,000

Heat 4                   $5,000

Final                       $15,000

QBRED Final        $10,000

The programming of these races comes on the back of the successful Breed a Trotter program.  To assist with the development of juvenile trotters in Queensland Racing Queensland will commit to running the races providing a minimum field size of 3 can be achieved.

To maximize opportunities for Queensland bred trotters to achieve their bonuses a QBRED Cash Bonus is placed on most trotting races in Queensland to assist owners and breeders not only to recover their pay up fees but to encourage the breeding of trotters in the local breeding industry.
