LEVIATHAN owner Mick Boots is preparing for a huge role in the Queensland Constellations.

And his hand is getting stronger by the day.

Captains Mistress, Hollywood Strip, probably Swayzee and now boom two-year-old Jacwill Kid will be amongst his major players.

Boots confirmed he recently bought a half-share in Jacwill Kid, winner of the Bathurst Gold Crown, and the pacer joined Jason Grimson’s stable last Monday.

It’s a different direction for Boots, who races the majority of horses by himself.

Jacwill Kid’s other part-owners are an illustrious list including Summit Bloodstock, Aaron Bain Racing, Glenn Holland’s Rampant Racing and Queensland form guru Ryan Spice.

The $500,000 Group 1 Protostar at Albion Park on July 11 is the first major target.

More immediately, Captains Mistress will clash with another of Boots’ stars, speedster Hi Manameisjeff, in a cracking 1609m JD Watts free-for-all at Menangle on Saturday night.

Former Inter Dominion champion Don Hugo and classy ex-Kiwis Chase A Dream and Pinseeker add to the depth of the race.

“This will be her (Captains Mistress’) last (NSW) run before heading to Queensland next week,” Boots said.

Her first Queensland target is the $100,000 Group 2 Redcliffe Cup, a standing start handicap, on June 20.

Then comes the $350,000 Group 1 Rising Sun at Albion Park on July 4 where she is a $1.60 pre-post favourite.

Hollywood Strip, a brilliant winner of last Saturday’s Nutrien final at Wagga, is also bound for the Rising Sun.

Trainer-driver Brad Hewitt said he would have one more NSW run, probably in a Menangle free-for-all, before the race.

Then comes the $150,000 Group 1 Queensland Derby on July 18.

Boots said Swayzee was recovering from tying up issues after his recent NZ campaign.

“He’s had a bit of a break, but I still think he’ll be right for the Inter Dominion,” he said.
