Respected reinsman Michael Formosa has picked up the Group 1 drive on Misterfire at Newcastle tonight.

Formosa has the shortest trip home on the Joseph Clark-trained pacer who has drawn barrier one in the $100,000 Regional Championships Hunter Final.

Misterfire won his qualifier last week with Jack Callaghan in the sulky.

Callaghan has elected to drive the favourite Far Out Bro for trainer Adam Ruggari.

Callaghan also qualified Grosestar for the final.

The pacer is trained by Callaghan’s father Mark Callaghan and will be driven by Jack Trainor tonight.

Grand Circuit winning horseman Vic Frost will also be chasing Group 1 success in the feature.

The 81-year-old mentor has heat winner Scotch En Ice who has the breeding of Frost’s former champion pacer Westburn Grant.

The $100,000 Regional Championships Riverina Final will also take place at Wagga today with Rocknroll Runa the main fancy after a dominate heat win.
