Talented trotting filly Tough Love is ready for her next target.

That is to take on the boys in next week’s New South Wales Trotters Derby.

Fresh after winning Saturday night’s Group 1 NSW Trotters Oaks at Menangle, trainer-driver Rickie Alchin believes his filly is up to the challenge.

“The Derby is on next week and it’s hard to pass up a $50,000 race in your own backyard,” said Alchin who trains his horses on the Menangle track.

“If she pulls up well after tonight we’ll take on the boys.”

Tough Love obtained her biggest win to date on Saturday, taking out the time-honoured classic.

“She’s a beautiful filly.

“She’s a high speed horse and has a big future.”

It has been a big year for Alchin who has trained and driven three Group 1 winners including Tardelli and Soho Rhapsody at the Bathurst Gold Crown in March.

Race 4: Can Can Dancer (7)

Down in class from racing Group 1 company last start and should make use of that.

Newcastle next best

Race 5: Stellas Delight (8)

Has had three starts in Australia and this is her easiest task yet.

Around the tracks

Canberra best bet

Race 2: Willow (3)

Has the pace to lead and if she can pinch a soft sectional, she will be hard to catch.
