A number of Sydney trainers are heading over the Blue Mountains to Bathurst tonight.

With heats of the Star Trek series the main lure, one horseman looking to secure a spot in the $14,994 final on January 19 is Alex Alchin.

The Menangle Park conditioner will produce Gimme A Reason in the first heat, race four.

The For A Reason gelding has won his two starts this preparation in slick times at Goulburn and Newcastle, respectively.

The four-year-old has only had four starts to date.

Alchin will also take former Victorian pacer Bankroll to Bathurst tonight.

Alchin prepares a small team of horses while also working as an equine dentist.

The younger brother of horsemen Jarrod and Rickie Alchin, the 28-year-old has trained 36 winners since the 2011/12 season.

The iForm best bets for tonight:

Bathurst best bet

Race 7: Yareadyfreddy (5)

Can go one better following a narrow Parkes defeat.

Race 1: Manhattan Island (2)

A noticeable improver at his past couple of appearances who does rate highly.
