Young reinsman Jack Callaghan is back in action on home soil at Menangle today.

The 20-year-old only has the one drive on the six-race program, in race one on trotter Make Mine Muscle.

Callaghan drove interstate in Victoria on the weekend for the first time and secured Group 2 victory in the Bendigo Cup with pacer Spirit Of St Louis.

He took the drive for trainer Belinda McCarthy, who Callaghan works for.

“It was a massive thrill to win this race here,” said Callaghan after the effort.

“Luke (McCarthy) and Belinda are great to work for and since I moved to Sydney they have taken me under their wing.

“It’s great to reward them in bigger races like this.”

It has been a strong start to the new season for Callaghan who just last week won the Group 3 Intercity Pace Final at Maitland with Chevron Art.

Callaghan has driven 290 winners in his career.
