Vale Dick White

The South Australian harness racing community were deeply saddened today to hear of the tragic passing of industry stalwart and enthusiast and much-love identity Dick White.

Dick was a revered and much respected horseman who, after excelling in the rodeo ranks turned his skills to harness racing where he enjoyed considerable success as an owner, a trainer and as a driver.

However, it was Dick's passion for the square-gaiters, and his willingness to take on challenging horses, and turning them into winners, that stood him aside from many others.

As well as his involvement in rodeo and harness racing, he performed clerk of the course duties at both metropolitan and country race tracks.  Passing these skills to close friends and family.

Dick was active in the committee ranks of the Kapunda Harness Racing Club and the SA Square Trotters Association.

Dick also mentored and assisted numerous other participants during his harness racing career.

While Dick was seen as a rugged individual, he certainly had a gentle side which everyone that knew him witnessed and experienced.

As well as his involvement in the equine pursuits, Dick also made a name for himself as the poster-boy for a prominent SA clothing and footwear company, when they adopted a picture taken at the Carrington Rodeo with Dick riding CloudBuster.  This picture being used to epitomise the Rodeo industry at large.

Dick was a legend among the South Australian Harness Racing community and he will be sorely missed.  We express our sincere condolences to Dicks wife Janet and extend our deepest sympathies to his children Maryanne, Anita and Kate as well as his extended family.
