Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) is a statutory body whose role is to oversee all harness racing activity in Victoria. We are committed to developing a vibrant and sustainable harness racing industry which promotes participation, integrity and racing excellence and grow returns to all our stakeholders. We run approximately 450 race meetings per year at 28 tracks throughout Victoria.
The Opportunity
HRV has a exciting opportunity within the Flemington Head Office to join the finance team in the newly created role of Financial Controller.
Reporting to the General Manager Finance, this role will be responsible for the day to day financial operations of the HRV group including financial reporting, budgeting / forecasting and financial administration (AP, Bank Reconciliations and Payroll). The finance team supports all of the HRV Group entities and 14 Country Clubs that utilise HRV’s shared services. The role also supports the General Manager Finance to provide financial assessments and information, which will ensure planning and budgeting activities meet HRV’s business goals.
You will be responsible for not limited to:
- Leading and managing the finance team in a collaborative work environment
- Coordinating the development, implementation and monitoring of financial controls and accounting systems with a view to automation and best practice
- Oversight of budgets, forecasts and monthly P&L reports
- Oversight of Group cash flow
- Ensure compliance with statutory, government policy, ethical standards and internal audit requirements including Standing Directions
- Oversight of the payroll function and ensure compliance with relevant awards
- Administration of the groups insurance policies
- Coordination of internal and external audits
- Oversight of other activities such as taxation (FBT, GST etc), finance policies and procedures and property administration
About You
As the successful candidate:
- You will need to have previous experience managing and leading a finance department
- Record of successful performance in a senior accounting position
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of budgeting, asset management, financial and management reporting.
- Experience in the racing or related industry is highly desirable.
- Experience within a Victorian government entity and or exposure to the Standing Directions reporting framework is desirable but not essential
- A keen interest in working in the harness racing industry
