Harness Racing Victoria (HRV), a statutory body, is responsible for the control, development and promotion of the Victorian harness racing industry. The Opportunity

The Animal Welfare & Licensing Steward will be responsible for coordinating HRV’s licensing and animal welfare function to ensure compliance with the Australian Harness Racing Rules.

Working under the supervision and direction of the Manager Investigations & Compliance, responsibilities include: 

  • Assist to develop and coordinate equine health & welfare strategies

  • Prepare & deliver presentations to key stakeholders

  • Assist the veterinary team with policy & procedure

  • Managing the licensing function – annual renewals, new applications & licensing disputes

  • Assist with facilitating animal welfare research

  • Educate & consult with participants & licence applicants

About you

The successful applicant will have a passion for equine welfare and compliance and possess the following experience, skills & attributes;

  • Experience/knowledge of animal welfare strategies & programs

  • Ability to follow strict procedural guidelines

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong writing style and an engaging presenter

  • Strong attention to detail, time management and ability to meet deadlines

  • Role related qualifications

  • Conversant with practises relating to licensing policy & registration processes

A genuine desire to work and make a contribution to protecting the integrity of the racing industry is a must.
