Lucky Cam, whose career was cut short by injury, is a full-brother to the most popular sire in North America in 1998 in Camluck 1:48.8 $1,003,260. Lucky Cam is by Cam Fella, who has seven sons in the list of the 26 most popular US sires at present.

Lucky Cam is the sire of 22 winners in WA and Tasmania, including one current 2yo. His oldest progeny are current 4yos and include the tough 4yo mare Psycho Chicken (9 wins and $39,047), last season’s 3yo Fillies Sires Classic winner Scarlet In Black ($35,678), this season’s 6PR 3yo Classic Winner Woodford Cam (3 wins and $27,818) and the 1997 2yo Fillies Sires Classic runner-up Courtney Lass (2 wins and $26,290). Three of Lucky Cam’s four richest winners are fillies.

ROSS OLIVIERI

Ross Olivieri, who turns 45 later this month, has been one of Western Australia’s Leading Trainers for a number of years.

His successes with young horses in recent years have included success at Group One level with Saab and Harry Gunn in the 2yo Golden Slipper Stakes and with Saab in the 1998 WA Derby and the 1997 Pearl Classic.

This season Saab has gone on to become one of the best horses in Australia with an unblemished record which includes victories in the 4yo Golden Nugget Championship and the 1999 Be Active WA Pacing Cup.

Ross has been involved with Trotsynd since its inception in 1995 as the trainer of Hail The Judge in that gelding’s 17 wins and $201,175 in stakes. He is currently training the smart two year old Firenfrost for Trotsynd No 3 Syndicate.

In just three starts to date Firenfrost has recorded a win at Pinjarra and two seconds in a heat and final of the $50,000 WA Sales Classic.

Ross prefers to concentrate on the training aspects of preparing the State’s best team of two year olds and engages leading freelance drivers such as Chris Lewis, Lindsay Harper and Craig Goldfinch for the racenight work.
