Windyhillbomber took his charity earnings past $25,000 with a brave
third at Yarra Valley last Monday afternoon.
With
John Caldow a late replacement in the sulky for the injured Chris Alford,
the Bombers Harness Syndicate pacer fought on strongly in a blistering
28.7 second final quarter to be beaten less than three metres.
Despite
a keen desire to save the four-year-old up for one sprint, Windyhillbomber
was a victim of circumstances early and was unfortunately caught without
cover outside the leader for the duration of the 2210m event.
Once
posted there Caldow wisely elected not to hand up to the 'death seat'
to $35 outsider Class Exemplified who tired to finish seventh, whilst
Windyhillbomber showed plenty of character to finish close up behind
$2.50 favourite Satan.
Trainer
Jayne Davies was pleased with the run and said the pride of Windy Hill
would derive great benefit from what was his first hit-out in a month.
Monday's
placing took the Alabar Bloodstock-bred pacer's career record to an
impressive seven wins and 17 placings from 40 starts.
His
next appearance will be at either Warragul or Bendigo next Thursday,
15 July, with a decision to be made come acceptance time on Monday.
