Trainers with multiple runners in any one race were questioned in relation to their intended tactics.

RACE 1 – JESSE & MAREE 3YO PACE. (2190MS)

ORPHAN REACTOR – Hung in racing in the back straight on the final occasion where the filly commenced to give ground leaving the 700 metres.  Underwent a post race veterinary examination which revealed the filly to have returned with an elevated heart rate and was slow to recover.  Driver A De Campo was of the opinion the filly may have choked down in running.  Trainer M Howie advised that he would experiment with gear changes prior to the filly racing again.  Trainer was advised that due to the performance the filly would be stood down from racing until such time as the completion of one satisfactory trial.

General:

An inquiry was held into the reasons TAJIE BABY (C Voak) was checked and contacted marker pegs racing into the back straight on the final occasion. It was established that MADAME GAZELLE (A De Campo) had been racing in a two wide position had shifted inwards towards the marker peg line at the the same time TAJIE BABY had improved quickly into a position vacated by RACEY AMERICAN which had given ground quickly. Stewards were satisfied that when commencing his shift Mr De campo had done so when it was clear however, TAJIE BABY had momentum and improved quickly into the position. Further, Stewards were satisfied that Mr De Campo had made sufficient efforts to afford TAJIE BABY adequate racing room and no further action was taken.
