RACE 2:  GWN’S DONNA HANKS PACE. (2550MS)

TIZ ART NZ – Utilised the sprint lane over the concluding stages of this event.

CARA EVELYN – Had a tendency to over-race during the running of this event.  Stewards questioned driver Madeleine Young in regards to the performance of the mare in tonight’s event. Ms Young explained that the mare had over-raced during the middle stages of the event and believes that was the major contributing factor in the mare’s performance. Ms Young further explained that the mare was having its first race start for them over the 2550 metres and that they had been racing week to week with her and with the cancellation of last week’s race meeting may have contributed to the performance.

FLIGHT MODE – Trainer B Curtis was reprimanded under the provisions of rule 210 for a late driving notification.

CAMS RESURGENCE – Had a tendency to over-race in the early stages of this event. Driver C Peterson dropped his foot from the sulky rest momentarily, racing in the front straight on the first occasion.

ALL ABOUT THE CASH – Had the offside sulky wheel contacted and flattened racing in the front straight to receive the bell.

LEICA SPOILT ADDA – Raced roughly racing into the front straight on the first occasion.  Driver T Wheeler fined $200 under the provisions of rule 168(1)(a) for careless driving in that racing in the front straight to receive the bell, he shifted from a position in the one wide line to a position three wide and in doing so has made contact to the offside sulky wheel of ALL ABOUT THE CASH.  Gave ground over the concluding stages of this event.  Underwent a post race veterinary examination where there were no abnormalities found.  A warning was placed against this mare for its performance.

RACE 5: TONY HOLMES MEMORIAL CONDITIONED HANDICAP PACE. (2118MS)

TRUST MY JUDGEMENT NZ – Stewards questioned Driver C Peterson in regards to the driving tactics he adopted, in particular racing over the concluding stages of this event. Mr Peterson explained that leaving the back straight on the final occasion he was behind the leader ANOTHER AYJAY and he was in two minds whether to shift from the position behind the leader and attempt to gain clear running or to wait until the sprint lane became available and use that.  Mr Peterson further explained that he initially shifted to the one wide line to attempt to gain clear running then shifted back behind the leader but then shifted wider again back to the one wide line as he was of the opinion that the leader would not take him to the sprint lane.  Mr Peterson also explained with that advantage of hindsight he should have possibly stayed behind the leader and used the sprint lane over the concluding stages of the event.  Stewards advised Mr Peterson that they were of the opinion that he had erred in his driving tactics in tonight’s event and that any such repetition may see action being taken against his licence.

ESTOCADA NZ – Checked shortly after the start of this event.
