Douglas Claims Another Milestone

Daryl Douglas continued his march towards another record-breaking season over the weekend when he brought up his 150th winner of the 2007/08 season.
The Ross Creek-based reinsman notched the milestone when he teamed with Cosmic Under Fire to win the opening race, the 1609m Fuszion Pace, at Moonee Valley on Saturday night.
Douglas book-ended the program when he scored an upset win in the Vermont Panels Vicbred Trot aboard Running Pinevale.
Continuing on his good form, he buttered up with another double at Kilmore yesterday – with odds-on favourites Best Of Times and Sokin Wet – to take his 2007/08 tally to 153 winners.
The haul has Douglas on track to better the 320 winners – the most by a male on Australasian tracks in one season – he drove in 2006/07.
Douglas, who turns 35 on February 1, is almost halfway there despite the 2007/08 season not reaching its midpoint until the end of February.
If he maintains his current strike rate Douglas may even challenge the Australasian record of 371 winners in a season, set by Kerryn Manning in 2002/03.
Douglas has taken 740 drives to notch his 153 winners, which is a victory every 4.83 drives. Last season he averaged a winner every sixth drive.
Not surprisingly Douglas holds a commanding lead in the statewide drivers’ premiership. He is almost 100 winners clear of Gavin Lang (64), who holds a narrow advantage over Manning (61) in the race for second place.
Rounding out the top five is star young driver Nathan Jack (59) and last season’s metropolitan drivers’ premiership winner Chris Alford (57).
