Jayne Davies is understandably excited about having Tromos engaged in Saturday night's $20,000 Renown Silverware The Golden Reign at Moonee Valley.
The $20,000 free-for-all is part of a new race naming initiative by Harness Racing Victoria designed to honour Victorian-trained Inter Dominion winners or horses to have won an Inter Dominion final in Victoria.
Golden Reign, who won the 1995 Inter Dominion in Christchurch, was trained by Davies' partner Noel Alexander at their Clyde property.
Given that's the case, Davies could be excused if she pencilled in the inaugural The Golden Reign months ago for one of her charges, but she said that wasn't the case with Tromos.
"It's just worked out that he's running in this race," Davies said of the 10-year-old, who has only had one run back from a year-long layoff.
"He had the run in the Cup the other day at Yarra Glen and we had to give him another run somewhere to get him fit and this race works in well for him.
"It would be lovely if he was able to win, that's for sure."
And Davies wouldn't be completely shocked if Tromos did salute. While he ran fifth behind Karlsruhe in the Yarra Glen Cup, he lost all winning hope when he galloped after being checked approaching the home turn.
"Chris (Alford, driver) hadn't even gone for him that day and he said he was going quite well when he got flattened," she said.
"He was on the back of the winner and he probably would have run first or second if he didn't get flattened."
The good news is the former gun juvenile, who won 12 of his first 14 starts, took no harm from the rough run.
"He just pulled up really well and is as good as gold," Davies said. It's a lot harder field this week and we're still getting him fit, but he'll run a good race because he always seems to run good races when he's fresh."
TAB Sportsbet has Tromos on the fourth line of betting at $7 in the seven-horse race, to be run at 7.32pm. Hot favourite at $1.65 is Smooth Crusa, ahead of stablemate Larado ($5) and Bold Cruiser ($5.50).
