Australia's premier reinsman Daryl Douglas last night drove his 200th winner for the season.
The 34-year-old brought up the milestone with a victory aboard the Peter Den Houting-trained Rapid Crusader in the fifth event at Nyah.
Douglas had earlier posted two narrow seconds at the meeting in the state's far north after finishing third in his sole drive at Yarra Valley during the afternoon.
It's the seventh consecutive season the Bendigo-based reinsman has reached the magical milestone and the quickest in which he's done so.
Interestingly, his 200th winner came up 37 days earlier than last season where he went on to register 271 wins - seven shy of his all-time best tally set in 2002-03.
Based on his current strike rate the hard-working reinsman is a genuine chance of joining Kerryn Manning as the only Australasian driver to post 300 winners in a season.
Douglas currently enjoys a staggering 47 win lead over Queensland's Grant Dixon in the race to secure his second consecutive Australian drivers' premiership.
Victoria's six-time Australian champion Chris Alford sits third on 142 wins, with Western Australian young gun Gary Hall Jnr (120) and New South Wales ace Greg Bennett (118) rounding out the top five.
The 2006-07 season has been a memorable one for Douglas who posted his maiden Group 1 victory aboard A Touch Of Flair in the $100,000 Australian Trotting Grand Prix at Moonee Valley last December.
Six weeks later he celebrated his first Grand Circuit success after steering hometown hero Sting Lika Bee to a popular victory in the $125,000 Cadbury Ballarat Cup.
He then combined with the same pacer to post a world record mile rate of 1:55.8 for a distance greater than 2400-metres when taking out the $50,000 All Seasons Bendigo Cup on March 10.
