Victorian-bred four-year-old Beat City maintained his outstanding form when he charged home from seventh at the 600m mark to score a convincing win in the 2503m Retravision, We Love Our Customers Handicap at Gloucester Park on Friday night.
His eleven starts in Western Australia have produced five wins and four seconds, and he looks set for many more wins from trainer Michael Young.
Beat City, handicapped off the 20m mark, was the $2.90 favourite, and Shannon Suvaljko was content to settle the gelding at the rear while polemarker and $4.40 second fancy Gee Smith was in his favoured role as pacemaker.
Suvaljko sent Beat City forward, three wide, 550m from home, and the gelding sprinted strongly to get to the front in the closing stages and win by a half-length from Gee Smith. The win boosted Beat City’s stakes to $119,453 from 13 wins and 14 placings from 43 starts.
