AMONGST ROYALTY continued her dominating run by taking out the Group 1 $300,000 Australian Pacing Gold 2YO Fillies Final at Ballarat last Saturday night.

The classy daughter of Parsons Den, out of the Northern Lights mare Artic Glow, is owned by renowned Western Australia breeder, Ross Torre who owns and runs Royalstar Farms near Perth.

Following his late father Carl Torre’s footsteps into the sport, who owned and raced horses for many years, Ross was keen to make his own mark in racing and fulfilled that ambition by becoming a breeder.

Since purchasing a ‘few average’ broodmares in 1988, Torre has since risen to the top of his game, particularly when the businessman went commercial with Royalstar Farms at Osborne Park in 1995.

He started something that would eventually rival the best breeding operations in Australia.

Also a part-owner and organizer of the Gloucester Standardbreds Sales company at Perth, Torre’s operation at Royalstar is now responsible for the care of more than 180 broodmares.

Amongst Royalty, now Torre’s shining light, became yet another Australian Pacing Gold winner for her other connections – trainer Jayne Davies and reinsman Chris Alford.

Davies and Alford have won two other APG fillies finals together with Espeshlimade Lombo and Lombo La Fe Fe, while also winning a colts & geldings series with champion pacer Golden Reign in 1992.

Amongst Royalty, which rated 2:01.1 for the 1710-metre trip, beat Victorian pacers Cullens Ace and Von Rita after leading all-the-way.

The victory took her career record to 13 starts for eight wins, three minor placings and stakes of $289,650 and followed up recent triumphs in the Bathurst Gold Tiara and WA Sales Classic Finals.

The nation’s premier juvenile filly will now return to her home state of Perth for a series of feature races before heading back to Victoria for the Australasian Breeders Crown later in the season.
