THE WAKEFUL CLUB LEADING LADY DRIVER – SHELLEY BARNES

The Wakeful Club is made up of a group of ladies with a passion for racing. They provide sponsorship for Thoroughbred and Harness Racing with an emphasis on recognising the achievements of female participants. 

 

Shelley drove 17 winners and 27 placegetters from 184 Tasmanian drives for $82,235 in prize money.   Her winners included Sparkling Glow (3), Downtown Dixie (3), Tough Rock (3), Montichello (2) and Gungas Brother (2).

 

 Sharyn Slater (16) finished second with Ingrid Williams (8) third.

 

THE WAKEFUL CLUB LEADING LADY TRAINER - SHELLEY BARNES

Shelley continued her dominance of this award. From 118 starters she recorded 12 wins and 17 placings for $62,705 in prize money. Her winners included Downtown Dixie (3), Montichello (3), Gungas Brother (2) and Celtic Ross (2).

 

Brooke Hammond (9) finished second with Jan Richardson (3) third.

 

HARNESS RACING TASMANIA LEADING JUNIOR DRIVER – GARETH RATTRAY

Twenty-Year-Old Longford reinsman Gareth Rattray won his third Leading Junior Driver Award. He drove 29 winners and 57 placings from 180 drives for $140,904 in prizemoney. Gareth’s winners included Kenny Karalta ($8,000 Premiers Breeders Stakes), La Nikita (3), Coral Coral (3), Harwick (3), The Grouse (2) ($6,500 NWTLHA Cup), Kintes Ruler (2) and Yushchenko Leis (2).

 

James Rattray (17) finished second with James Austin (14) third.

 

HARNESS RACING TASMANIA LEADING DRIVER AWARD – RICKY DUGGAN

Thirty Five Year Old New Norfolk driver Ricky Duggan is Tasmania’s leading driver for the fourth time having previously won the award in 1997/98, 2002/03 and 2003/04. He finished the season with a driving record of 78 wins and 103 placings from 334 starts for $387,263 in stake earnings. Over the last three seasons his total stake earnings is $931,000.

 

His major wins included the $40,000 Easter Cup (Fleet Express), $25,000 Dandy Patch (Next Top), $25,000 Bullock Consulting Devonport Cup (Daman), $8,000 St Leger (Cosmic Dancer), $8,000 Eric Reece Memorial (Connor Patrick), $8,000 Governors Cup (Armbros Revenge), $7,000 Coastal Pacing Thousand (Frank Reigns), $9,000 Killarney Stud Bouquet (Boys Toys), $7,000 Sir James Plimsoll (Fleet Express) and the $7,000 Island Block and Paving Launceston Mile (Chaparrita).

 

Barrie Rattray (37) finished second with Neville Webberley (33) third.

 

HARNESS RACING TASMANIA LEADING TRAINER AWARD – BARRIE RATTRAY

Barrie Rattray, a 44-year-old professional trainer from Longford, has won his eleventh Tasmanian trainers title. Barrie recorded 47 wins and 97 placing’s from 297 starters for $269,308 in stake earnings His major wins were the $25,000 George Johnson (Queen Carey), $8,000 Debutante Stakes (Treble Value), $8,000 Youthful Stakes (Alby Albert), $8,000 Bullock Consulting St Marys Country Guineas (Dales Wish), $7,000 Shirley Hills (Public Persecution), $7,000 Matron Stakes (Public Persecution) and the $6,500 Berriedale Stud Incentive (Come On Max).

 

Eric Jacobson (44 wins) finished second with Bill Dornauf (28 wins) third.  

 

BELMONT BOWL – DEANNA TROY

The Belmont Bowl is awarded to the 2YO Filly with the greatest aggregated success in the three Belmont Pace Finals.

 

Les and Pat Bromfield, to commemorate the influence of their outstanding sire Scotty Belmont, provided the perpetual trophy that is awarded each year.

 

Deanna Troy, owned by Stephen Heathcote was the winner. Trained and driven by Ross Freeman, Deanna Troy won the Launceston and Devonport Finals. 

 

Final points were Deanna Troy (40), El Jays Belle (25) and Faithful Sally (14).

 

BRAEBOURN STUD 2YO FILLY OF THE YEAR – DEANNA TROY

Ken Austin, the owner of Braebourn Stud, stands Cellular Fella, Indy Aaron, Magic Rule and Shiver Me Timbers.

 

Deanna Troy was the clear selection for the Braebourn Stud 2YO Filly of the Year. She had 6 starts for 5 wins and $23,248 in prize money. Her wins included the $8,000 Premiers Blue Bonnet, $8,000 Vicbred Super Series Two Year Old Fillies Heat, $6,000 Launceston Belmont Final and the $6,000 Devonport Belmont Final.

 

Deanna Troy is owned by Stephen Heatcote and was trained and driven by Ross Freeman and Chris Alford.

 

Final points were Deanna Troy 56, Idengood Time 26, Chrissy Grant 20 and El Jays Belle 3.

 

TOTE TASMANIA 2YO COLT OR GELDING OF THE YEAR – DARE WE DREAM

Dare We Dream was the unanimous selection as 2YO Colt or Gelding of the Year. He had 4 starts for 4 wins and $24,750 in prizemoney. His wins included the $20,000 Cadbury Sweepstakes Final and the $6,000 Cadbury Sweepstakes Heat.

 

Dare We Dream is owned by Colin Johnstone and Stan Rossendell and was trained and driven by Neville Webberley.

 

Final points were Dare We Dream 60, Next Top 20, Weowna Gangster 13, Yushchenko Leis 10 and Kenny Karalta 2.

 

KELL-CILL STUD 3YO FILLY OF THE YEAR – SHEEZ EXCLUSIVE

Rick and Naomi Hinds are the proprietors of Kell-Cill Stud. They stand Tiger Woods and Deiberspace.

 

Sheez Exclusive was the unanimous choice for the Kell-Cill Stud 3YO Filly of the Year Award.  Sheez Exclusive had 13 starts for 8 wins and 3 placings for $48,611 in prizemoney. Her wins included the $25,000 Bullock Consulting Bandbox Final, $8,000 Roberts Limited Fillies Championship and the $7,000 Bullock Consulting Tasmanian Country Championship. 

 

Sheez Exclusive is owned by Brian Mackrill and Marie Breward, was trained by Brian Mackrill and was driven by Jason Mackrill.

 

Final points were Sheez Exclusive 60, Dales Wish 17, Boys Toys 9, Francis May 8, La Nikita 7 and Maybe Jane 4.

 

CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS 3YO COLT OR GELDING OF THE YEAR – ROAD TRIP

Corporate Communications is Tasmania’s leading public relations and marketing communications consultancy company.

 

Road Trip was the winner of the Corporate Communications 3YO Colt or Gelding of the Year. Road Trip had 11 starts for 5 wins and 3 placings for $25,103 in prizemoney. His wins included the $10,000 Wormald Tasmanian Guineas.   Road Trip was third in the $35,000 Comet Enterprises Tasmanian Derby.

 

Road Trip is owned by Phillip and Deirdre Boxhall and Paige Ashwood, was trained by Rodney Ashwood and was driven by Rodney Ashwood and Neville Webberley.

 

Final points were Road Trip 41, Cosmic Dancer 31, Hillbilly Halo 27, Dee Dee Sharp 4 and Johnny Applesead 2.

 

BERRIEDALE STUD MARE OF THE YEAR - QUEEN CAREY

Leigh Plunkett is the proprietor of Berriedale Stud standing Time Stands Still.

 

Queen Carey was the winner of the Berriedale Stud Mare of the Year Award. Queen Carey had 22 starts for 6 wins and 10 placings for $47,685 in prizemoney. Her wins included the $25,000 Win TV George Johnson.

 

Queen Carey is raced by the Rattray Family Trust, was trained by Barrie Rattray and was driven by Barrie Rattray and Gareth Rattray.

 

Final points were Queen Carey 52, Terrific Lass 18, Little Miss Posh 17, Public Persecution 17 and Lucyna 1.

 

DUNHAM ELECTRICAL 4YO & OLDER HORSE OR GELDING OF THE YEAR – FLEET EXPRESS

Dunham Electrical caters for the full range of electrical contracting and specialise in all aspects of high voltage testing.

 

Fleet Express was the unanimous choice for the Dunham Electrical 4YO and Older Horse or Gelding of the Year Award. Fleet Express had 17 starts for 4 wins and 4 placing’s for $48,657 in prizemoney. His wins included the $40,000 Design and Print Centre Easter Cup, $8,000 SEW Eurodrive Heat at Moonee Valley and the $7,000 Sir James Plimsoll. 

 

Fleet Express is raced by Shane Hilderbrand, Tandy Gill, Glenn Butterworth and Phillip Jones, was trained by Eric Jacobson and was driven by Ricky Duggan and Kerryn Manning.

 

Final points were Fleet Express 60, Armbros Revenge 24, Sparkling Glow 8, Beena Buster 4, Daman 4, Billy Joe Hall 3, Gotcha Mate 1 and Albert Jones 1.

 

TOPNOTCHER - BROODMARE OF THE YEAR – DRAW CARD

Geoff Madden is standing Topnotcher and Patrick Paige at his Thirlstane Stud.

 

Draw Card won this closely contested award and is the Topnotcher Broodmare of the Year for the second consecutive year. Three of her progeny won races in the 2004-2005 racing season. Queen Carey had 22 starts for 6 wins and 10 placings for $47,685 in stakemoney. Queen Carey won the $25,000 Win TV George Johnson. Public Persecution had 20 starts for 5 wins and 5 placings for $25,696 in prizemoney. Two of her wins were in races worth $7,000 – The Shirley Hills and the Matron Stakes. King Carey had 16 starts for 1 win, rating 1.58.2 in Perth WA, and 4 placings and $8,005 in prize money.

 

The Rattray Family Trust owns Draw Card and her progeny amassed $86,376 in prizemoney.

 

Final points were Draw Card 17, Flora Grant 16, Marlee Jayne 4, Iden Byrd 4 and Bar Ron 1.

 

SOUTHERN CROSS TELEVISION HORSE OF THE YEAR – FLEET EXPRESS

Fleet Express was the clear choice for the Southern Cross Television Horse of the Year Award. Fleet Express had 17 starts for 4 wins and 4 placing’s for $48,657 in prizemoney. His wins included the $40,000 Design and Print Centre Easter Cup, $8,000 SEW Eurodrive Heat at Moonee Valley and the $7,000 Sir James Plimsoll.
