Racing Queensland has announced a new $20,000 feature for two-year-old pacers to be held at Albion Park on Saturday 9 March 2019.

The ‘Changeover @ Burwood Stud’ 2YO Classic has been added to replace the Paleface Adios Wayne Wilson 2YO, which has been moved to coincide with the 2019 TAB Queensland Winter Racing Carnival.

The winning trainer will also receive a new Rio Cobra Sulky with thanks to long-time supporters of the standardbred code, Garrard’s.

The race will also be complemented by a $12,800 2YO feature on the Saturday prior, providing good opportunities for early season two-year-old horses before they head onto other features later in the season.

The new race is a further boost to Queensland’s two-year-old racing program, which will this year feature six Group 1 races.

They are:

  • Australian Pacing Gold Final - Colts and Geldings (11 May)
  • Australian Pacing Gold Final – Fillies (11 May)
  • QBRED TRIAD Final - Colts and Geldings (20 July)
  • QBRED TRIAD Final – Fillies (20 July)
  • Redcliffe Yearling Sale Series Final – Mixed (22 June)
  • APG Brisbane Sale Graduates Final – Mixed (10 August)

The two-year-old season is about to commence and Racing Queensland is calling for nominations for a 2YO Pace scheduled for Albion Park on Tuesday 12 February 2019.

Other 2YO features scheduled for the 2018/19 season include:

  • QBRED Breeders Classic - Colts and Geldings + Consolation (13 April)
